Tackle your dry skin this autumn!

As autumn sets in each year, dry skin becomes a popular topic. The onset of colder weather and central heating being switched back on, can leave skin feeling drier and tighter. Of course, if you have a dry skin type, then this affects you all year round, so that’s why we have created some simple tips below to combat dry skin.

What is dry skin?

Dry skin is classified as skin that appears dull, flaky with dry patches, fine lines and tight pores. You may find your skin feels tight and itchy. Dry skin struggles to retain water in its uppermost layers to keep it looking and feeling healthily hydrated.

Dry skin is a type, not to be confused with dehydrated skin, a state that occurs when the body lacks water. Dehydrated skin can affect anyone, even those with oily skin, and commonly manifests in dullness and fine lines.

What causes dry skin?

Unfortunately, if you tend to suffer from dry skin there are many situations that can make it worse. Central heating is a big culprit as it heats the air, removing the moisture which increases the water loss from the skin. Colder weather can also have an effect on dry skin, which is why this time of year can see many people suffering from dry skin and not only dry skin types.
